Will the stimulus package open Mt. Umunhum?

Being a Southbay trail runner, I have often looked up to Mt. Umunhum's monolith and dreamt of the possibility of being able to run to the summit of this 3,486ft peak. Now it seems that political pressure is mounting, and the stimulus package may help cover the 11 million needed to clean up the former air force base.

"It feels like all the pieces are coming together and that it's going to happen this time," said Rep. Mike Honda, D-Campbell. "Why should only rich people have a view? It should be available to everybody." Check out the San Jose Mercury News article and hopefully sometime in the future I will be able to run from my doorstep to the summit of Mt. Umunhum!

2009 WTC Post #1

It was a great day for running in NorCal today! The Way Too Cool 50K was held today and the bay area was well represented with wins by Leor Pantilat of San Carlos and Caitlyn Smith of Oakland.

My race went well, started conservatively and put the hammer down for the last 10 miles to finish 4:16, 30th overall and 2nd AG.

For now enjoy the video and if you want to see some pictures you can see them here.

Febuary in review

Below is my training summary for the month of February. I had a solid month which included running 28 days straight. My longest run was 30 miles on the 28th, and my shortest run was 1 mile. My biggest week of training was February 22nd to March 1st (97.5 miles). I ran in two races, the Overgrown Fatass Marathon, and the PCTR Montano de Oro 25k and I placed second in both races.

#- 39 times
time: 48:34 (9:48)
miles: 298.25
+ feet: 30810

#: 8
time: 8:00
Miles: 120

In all, training is going really well! My hip is almost 100%, and with 2 weeks until Way Too Cool I have had two weeks of high mileage training. I plan on doing one more 90 mile week and then doing a mini taper for WTC.

I am not sure what my goals are for WTC. I guess I would like to go under 4 hrs., but not push myself to hard in the process. This is a early season race and my first 50k of 2009, so it is a good measuring stick of early season fitness.
